Helen is an approved British Alpaca Society (BAS) Affiliate Trainer and delivers training based on the BAS Affiliate Trainer syllabus. These courses follow a nationally recognised framework designed to support responsible, welfare-led alpaca ownership and management.
BAS Affiliate Trainer courses are delivered independently by Alpaca Power in line with the BAS syllabus and are suitable for those seeking a structured introduction to alpaca care and best practice.
BAS Affiliate Trainer course structure
BAS Affiliate Trainer courses are based on a set of nine core modules approved by the British Alpaca Society. Modules may be delivered individually or combined, depending on course format, group needs, and learner experience.
The BAS Affiliate Trainer modules include:
- Module 1: Feeding and basic management
- Module 2: Pasture management and grazing
- Module 3: Handling and routine husbandry
- Module 4: Health, biosecurity, and disease awareness
- Module 5: Understanding shearing day
- Module 6: Fleece – assessment and options for use

About the trainer
Helen is a Registered Veterinary Nurse with over 30 years’ clinical experience and more than 20 years as an alpaca breeder and herd manager.
She delivers training regularly in the UK through in-person seminars, on-farm teaching, and webinars for breeder organisations and regional groups. Helen is also a British Alpaca Society Affiliate Trainer, offering on-farm training in line with the BAS syllabus.
Recent work includes delivering advanced training for alpaca breeder groups overseas and specialist webinars focused on practical biosecurity and welfare-led management.
