Alpacas for Sale

Carefully selected alpacas for responsible ownership

Alpaca Power is a BAS Trusted Seller based in South Gloucestershire, placing registered alpacas across the UK.

We offer a carefully selected range of alpacas for sale, placed with a strong emphasis on welfare, suitability, and long-term outcomes for both animals and owners.

All alpacas offered for sale are registered with the British Alpaca Society (BAS) and come from a well-established, biosecure herd specialising in unique black genetics drawing on respected USA and Australian bloodlines. Registration provides verified parentage, clear lineage records, and supports responsible breeding decisions, including the prevention of accidental inbreeding.

Our herd is managed with a focus on health, temperament, and Camelidynamics-based, low-stress management, ensuring alpacas are well-prepared for transition into new herds and environments.

Wherever possible, we prefer to sell alpacas in pairs or compatible groups. This supports a smoother transition into a new herd and helps reduce stress during quarantine and the settling-in period.

For experienced owners wishing to purchase a single animal, we may have non-breeding companion alpacas available to support welfare and social integration.

We are always happy to discuss:

  • Quarantine protocols
  • Herd integration strategies
  • Management considerations specific to your set-up

These discussions form an important part of our sales process and help ensure successful, welfare-led placements.

New alpaca owners

Guidance for new alpaca owners

Alpacas are herd animals and must be kept in same-sex, compatible groups. For new owners, we recommend a minimum group size of three, and preferably four, to support social stability and long-term welfare.

We generally place halter-trained young wethers (castrated males) from around 18 months of age, rather than very young weanlings. This allows alpacas to leave us with greater maturity, confidence, and resilience, supporting a more successful transition for first-time owners.

For those wishing to start breeding, we typically recommend proven breeding females rather than maiden females. This helps new breeders gain experience and confidence while reducing avoidable risks during the early stages of herd development.

We strongly encourage new owners to access appropriate training and education before or alongside purchasing alpacas. You can find details of our alpaca training options here, including independent courses and BAS Affiliate trainer training.

Education, matching & ongoing support

Education, preparation, and ongoing support

Choosing the right alpacas is only part of the journey. We believe informed owners make the best guardians, which is why we place strong emphasis on education, preparation, and ongoing support.

We offer a range of learning and support options, including:

  • Online courses and downloadable resources
  • On-farm training and practical husbandry sessions
  • Guidance for new and aspiring owner/breeders

Our educational content allows structured learning at your own pace and is designed to support confident, welfare-led alpaca ownership.

Our herd currently consists of approximately 90 alpacas, drawing on respected USA and Australian bloodlines, with a strong emphasis on health, temperament, and long-term suitability for their intended role.

Rather than advertising individual animals, we prefer to take the time to understand each buyer’s:

  • Experience level
  • Goals and expectations
  • Facilities and management approach

This allows us to match alpacas thoughtfully and appropriately - whether for breeding programmes, starter herds, companion animals, fibre production, or non-breeding roles.

We welcome enquiries accompanied by a brief wish list, as this helps us make informed, suitable recommendations.

Buying from a BAS Trusted Alpaca Seller

We are members of the British Alpaca Society Trusted Alpaca Seller Scheme, a voluntary initiative designed to promote high welfare standards and good selling practice.

The scheme provides a verified framework for alpaca sales, helping ensure animals are sold with appropriate documentation, handover information, and aftercare. Sellers commit to a clear set of ethical standards, and compliance is supported through random verification checks.

For purchasers, this offers reassurance that alpacas are sold responsibly, with transparency, correct paperwork, and support available should it ever be needed.

You can find answers to common alpaca buying questions, including paperwork and welfare considerations, in our Alpaca Buying – Questions & Answers section.

Enquire about availability

We take care to match each alpaca thoughtfully, considering your experience, herd structure, intended purpose, breeding aims where appropriate, and long-term goals.

At the same time, we assess each alpaca’s individual strengths - such as temperament, bloodlines, breeding history, and fleece characteristics - to ensure an appropriate match.
