Three Fleece Shows with 3 different judges have demonstrated the quality of our fleeces across three different colour groups this year. The consistency within our herd has been proven over many years. We will continue to support fleece shows for a accurate assessment of the national herd.

Biosecurity update Jan 2011
Whilst we operate as a closed herd, it is worth pointing out that any alpacas from bTB restricted farms who have passed 2 skin tests ie. are now out of restriction should not be perceived to be bTB negative. The skin test is only 10% reliable and alpacas can have TB without symptoms.

South West TB Farm Advisory Service
A free and independent service for all farmers.
We have made use of this service to ensure our biosecurity remains at the highest possible level. We know we have no badgers active on our farm and by maintaining our closed herd status are minimising the risk of contact with infected livestock.
New Web Site

Biosecurity
Alpacas can get Bovine TB as well as other diseases from livestock, wildlife and other alpacas. Closed herd status, herd health planning and risk assessments will minimise these threats. Always ask breeders what they are doing to minimise the risks to you, the purchaser.
Easy decision in 2009 - we are a closed herd
We have decided to restrict our herd movements during 2010 and beyond. We will not be showing any animals, agisting any animals or allowing mobile matings until we as an industry develop better biosecurity at shows and between breeders. We feel strongly that individuals must learn about and develop good biosecurity and effective accreditation schemes.
Premier Camelid Bucket
We are delighted to be able to recommend Camelid mineral buckets, containing trace elements camelids need. Developed by JG Animal Health and following on from their excellent work with mineral drenches for Camelids, we wanted to be able to give our alpacas free choice to select for themselves what they need from their environment. After all, they are selective grazers! We have had excellent results so far with all alpacas using the lick to greater or lesser extent. Alpacas can lick but also scrape it with their teeth and drink off water after rainfall.
Please note that this product is an additional supplement and should not replace anything you currently provide for your alpacas and llamas ie. usual pellet supplements and ADE injections or paste. Not every animal may use the bucket and it is difficult to ascertain how much they have taken.
