When we started breeding in 2002 black alpacas were very hard to come by but we were determined to develop a high quality black huacaya herd and fleece of the highest value. We are very proud of our herd and the advanced fleece traits we have developed over many years. The industry still has a way to go before blacks can win Supreme Championships and that is the challenge...

We hope you enjoy learning more about each of our alpacas. All our black females breed true for colour ie. produce black every time!

Whilst we focus on black we do have alpacas in other colours including fawn, grey and white.

Syke House Piaso

Piaso is the blackest of alpacas and, since we purchased her in 2004, she has exceeded our expectations. Exhibiting correct conformation with excellent bone, she stamps her superb head style onto every cria. Piaso carries a very dense fleece without colour contamination. She demonstrates a high level of consistency, having produced three Champion black's in a row and her fourth cria, Promise, does not disappoint.

Chalford Petra

Petra is a stunning black female. We believe she is the most successful black female this country has seen, consistently winning 1st prizes every year since she was born.

Shown only five times over two seasons, she was awarded Black Female Champion three times, had four firsts and a second. At six years of age her fleece is very fine at 20 microns and she is still winning senior black fleece classes and beating the males!

She is producing a black cria every year and we are delighted with them.

Daughter of a mid brown dam and a white male, we were delighted to get a true black female for our second cria in 2002. Jemima was placed 2nd in our first ever show! An excellent dam with a heavy frame, she produces solid blue black every time when mated to black. Jemima is the herd leader and is still true black at 10 years old.

Chalford Cara

A dark fawn female from fawn bloodlines she should not really be on this page. However she is our only fawn and well worth a mention. A compact, heavy boned girl with a true to type head, she has a very nice dense fleece. With Microsoft genetics from her sire we look forward to quality cria in the future.

Chalford Black Jack

Jack did not look promising as a cria, all bent out of shape and needing a bottle for a couple of weeks. However, he has grown up to be very useful. Only shown three times, he won all his classes and helped us gain the Small Breeders Award at the 2008 British Alpaca Futurity. He is now co-owned as a stud male. A very well balanced, stylish male with truly excellent conformation and a dense, crimpy soft handling fleece.

Jack is a real character and works with great enthusiasm but hated being examined at shows!

And now for something a little different.......

Chalford Cappuchino

This lovely chap has 2 black parents and it is the only unusual result we have ever had. Mum was expecting a black ( that is what all her friends had) and it took her a few hours to accept him as hers.

He is now an adult and has joined our herd sire line up. His fleece has only ever achieved first places....
