Fleece Shows are the way to go...

We have shown alpacas in the past and won several Championships and numerous rosettes. However, we know that our animals are happier and healthier staying at home.

However, we very much enjoy showing our fleeces at fleece shows as it is essential for the industry to develop fleeces which are of high quality and commercially viable.

Fleece should be fine in micron, dense in terms of weight and show good length. In addition fleece should exhibit the characteristics demanded of a very high quality fibre product. ie excellent brightness, handle, colour uniformity and a well defined crimp style.

Fleeces are marked using a score card which provides excellent unbiased information about the fleece and helps with the breeding decisions we make to improve the fleece quality of our herd. All fleeces are anonymous to the judges.

Visitors are always welcome by appointment to view our alpacas in their own surroundings. We are repeatedly told how calm and friendly our animals are. Come and see for yourself the quality of our herd.

The Futurity Results 2008

We took three black alpacas and all three were placed first in their class. They were judged by Mike Safley (USA) and Paul Cullen (UK).

Chalford Petra went on to win Champion Black Female, her third Champion result from 4 shows.

These successes led to Alpaca Power being awarded the Futurity Small Breeder prize for 2008.
